It came from the MTB with a full 4th axis. I have the series parameter to turn on the axis but I don't have the correct parameters for the servos and such. I have turned on the series parameter and this turns on the additional axis.
I have added the following parameters since turning on the additional axis. My understanding is to start off low and slowly increase number until it becomes unstable then back off a little bit. P I think this is easily reversed to to change motor direction. But I do remember seeing a chart in one of the fanuc manuals that lists some settings weather they are all of them or if it was on a newer control I don't remember. I attached one for an excel which might also help get you close.

I think the actual parameters vary depending on the control. I will be working near a Supermax with a 0M control in the next few days. Will post the mods for that machine, it is changing a single bit, power down, unplug, power up. When a "dummy" plug is used, it may be needed to jumper the E-stop string.

How to set up a 4/5 axis machine configuration in Fusion 360 and HSM CAM Post Processors
I have a Leedwell Horizontal mill with a true 4th axis. It has a Fanuc OM control. What I want to do is instal a rotary table on top of the table to do some small work. I don't need to run all axis at once and was wondering if it were possible to instal some type of switch on the control so I could switch from using the 4th axis, which is the table, to the 4th axis clamped on top of the table?

Do you have all ready in the machine for the 4th axis??? You need an additional 4th axis servo amplifier, cables etc.

The servo motors are the type with the red encoders. What I imagined is having a switch on the control and use the same servo drive to drive the rotary table.Speed is an important factor when choosing a robot, and SCARAs are typically one of the fastest on the market. With four axes, they have less moving joints and are configured so that J1 and J2 control the X-Y motion, and J3 and J4 control the Z and rotation motion.
This simplifies inverse kinematic calculations, requiring less computational time. SCARA robots typically have the best repeatability performance of all robot types. Errors that occur in the X-Y position are due to having two motors at J1 and J2. Other robot types have three or more motors contributing to the X-Y position. The more motors, the more likely errors could occur. Excellent repeatability is crucial in small assembly applications where tolerances are required to be within several microns.

Skip to main content. Still Looking for Information.Indeed, there are many projects out there where someone converted a manual rotab to become a 4th axis. There are cases where we do continuous machining with a 4th axis—in other words, we want the cutter to be machining as the 4th axis turns.
But there are also many other applications. When indexing, no cutting happens until the 4th axis is stopped and often locked with a brake of some kind.
For example, to produce a cam lobe. The most obvious case for indexing is to gain better access to the part. The 4th Axis indexes each tooth into position, stops, and then the cutter makes a pass back and forth until the tooth is done.
They the next tooth is indexed into position. But, there are much simpler cases where indexing is also extremely helpful. Suppose you have a part like a throttle body that has holes on all sides. You could build fixtures and do a bunch of setups, one for each side. Or, you could also use a 4th axis to index the sides so more than one can be machined with a single setup. But another reason is that almost any Horizontal Mill has a 4th Axis Tombstone arrangement:.
They load and unload the tombstone which is the big upright chunk of cast iron the parts are held to while machining while the machine is busy cutting new parts on a tombstone in the machine.
As you can see, they have things set up so they can even do more than one kind of part on a tombstone. Now tell me, would having room for nearly twice the parts on your table increase productivity? First, you can machine shapes that would otherwise be impossible or very difficult. The closest thing possible without continuous machining would be to index as many positions as possible and use 3D contouring toolpaths to try to get the job done.
The second advantage comes when profiling with a ballnose cutter. The ballnose has a weakness, which is that the closer you get to the tip, the slower the flutes are spinning.
It sounds counter-intuitive, but just think of that tip as a series of concentric circles at different heights. Hence, the tip moves slower. With this technique, you use the 4th axis to allow the ballnose to be presented to the workpiece at an angle, so the side of the ball is used more than the tip:. Not only does this allow faster milling higher feedrates are possible but it gives a better surface finish and even improves tool life.
